US Open Golf is the prime time for all sportsbooks

Sportsbook odds on the U.S. Open will be on the board soon and they should be more popular than ever as this year the U.S. Open hits prime time.

The United States Golf Association announced that the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach will be televised later than ever.  Golf odds on the majors are interesting at the Internet sportsbook anyway and watching the action in prime time sure won’t hurt.

Sportsbook odds will favor Tiger Woods in the U.S. Open and now people will be able to watch him in prime time over the weekend. The U.S. Open begins on Thursday, June 17th and concludes on Sunday, June 20th. The third round which will be on Saturday is not scheduled to end on NBC until 11 pm Eastern time. Coverage of Sunday’s final round is scheduled to end at 9 pm Eastern time. The highest rating in the last six years for the U.S. Open was two years ago when coverage stretched into prime time at Torrey Pines. It was the third-best Sunday rating in U.S. Open history. In that tournament Tiger Woods and Rocco Mediate were locked in a battle that was not decided until a playoff the next day.

This year the U.S. Open is on the West Coast and that means prime time golf and exciting odds at the Internet sportsbook for those in the rest of the United States. “Playing the Open on the West Coast in June allows us to showcase this championship in prime time,” said Dick Ebersol, chairman of NBC Sports, “It should make for a great Father’s Day weekend with the best golfers in the world competing on one of golf’s most picturesque courses in prime time.”

This will be the first time since 2000 that the U.S. Open will be played at Pebble Beach. The last time it was played there it was all about Tiger Woods at the sportsbook as he won by an amazing 15 shots. ESPN was able to get coverage that year of the first and second rounds that went into prime time. ESPN gets the coverage of this year’s U.S. Open on Thursday and Friday. They are allocating coverage from 1 pm to 3 pm Eastern time and 5 pm to 10 pm Eastern time. NBC is going to take the 3 pm to 5 pm window on Thursday and Friday. They will show the third round on Saturday from 4:30 pm to 11 pm Eastern time and the fourth round from 3 pm to 9 pm Eastern time on Sunday.
