Australian Open betting is underway on the first Grand Slam event of the tennis season. Those making an Australian Open bet should know that first round play begins on Monday, January 18th and play concludes on Sunday, January 31st. Australian Open odds favor Roger Federer on the men’s side and Serena Williams on the women’s side.
Australian Open betting has some interesting potential matchups, even in the first round. Men’s defending champion Rafael Nadal goes up against local favorite Peter Luczak in the first round. Quarterfinal action on the men’s side could see Roger Federer up against Nikolay Davydenko and that might not be good news for Federer considering he has lost the last two meetings against Davydenko. Federer begins with Igor Andreev and he might have to play Australian Lleyton Hewitt in the fourth round. Another local favorite is likely to be power serving Carsten Bell and he meets last year’s semi-finalist Fernando Verdasco in the first round. Round two on the men’s side might have Juan Martin Del Potro against James Blake.
The women’s side in 2010 Australian Open betting is even more unpredictable and exciting. Two of the favorites, Justine Henin and Kim Clijsters are not highly seeded even though they are well respected in Australian Open odds. Clijsters is 3-1 to win in Australian Open betting odds while Henin is 4-1. Henin goes up against Kirsten Flipkens in the opening round and would face fifth seed Elena Dementieva in the second round. Henin could meet Clijsters in the quarterfinals. The two just played in the final at Brisbane and Clijsters won in three very good sets of tennis. Defending champion and top seed Serena Williams goes up against Urszula Radwanska in the first round. 2008 winner Maria Sharapova faces Maria Kirilenko in the first round. Local favorite, Jelena Dokic starts off with Alisa Kleybanova in the opening round.
Australian Open lines have Federer as the 2-1 favorite on the men’s side while Serena Williams is 2.5 to 1 on the women’s side. Those who bet on Australian Open action have a lot of contenders this year. Behind Federer on the men’s side is Nadal who is 4-1, Andy Murray and del Potro are 5.5 to 1 while Novak Djokovic is at 6-1 and Davydenko at 10-1. The women’s side looks even better for those making a bet on Australian Open tennis. Following the three favorites, Serena, Clijsters and Henin, it is Sharpaova at 7.5 to 1, Venus Williams at 8.5 to 1, Caroline Wozniacki at 10-1, Dementieva at 12.5 to 1, Victoria Azarenka at 15-1, Svetlana Kuznetsova at 16-1 and Dinara Safina at 21-1.
