Bet on the US Open action this year will feature all the greatest tennis players on the planet and some of the greatest to ever play the game. Featured prominently among this group of online sportsbook hopefuls will be a handful of highly ranked US players poised to capture the US Open betting title. However, in a somewhat curious development, there has not been a US man to win the honors in six years and many US Open betting experts expect the drought to continue in 2009 as well as the US Open.
US Open experts can point to one single development that has hindered the host country’s quest to reclaim their own title. And no, it’s not necessarily a drop off in American talent, though there are some US Open betting fans who might claim this. It is a Swiss export by the name of Roger Federer that has poisoned the hopes of not only all US contenders in the bet on the US Open action, but of every other single player in the US Open betting odds.
Not since 2003 has an American hoisted the bet on the US Open trophy. Andy Roddick defeated Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero in September of that year’s bet on the US Open competition. Since then no player aside from Federer has hoisted the cup or laid claim the US Open betting title.
While it may not seem like an odd development, considering that no British man has won Wimbledon for almost a century, the US has produced a much better class of talent than the UK and until Federer showed up, had great success in the bet on the US Open competition. In fact, prior to the Swiss’ dominance, the US had won seven of the previous 10 bet on the US Open titles.
This year, bet on the US Open for Andy Roddick, as he looks very strong, to dethrone the champ in the finals. James Blake always has an outside shot here and will surely be the bet on the US Open fan favorite once the action starts.
But the truth remains, Federer is still the man to beat in the US Open odds. And there is also the curious case of world number one Rafa Nadal coming back from injury and the ever-dangerous Andy Murray who’ll be looking for his second straight trip to the finals.
It will be another tough year and to bet on the US Open for the Americans reclaiming the title will not be easy.
