Tennis Betting Update: Federer Streaking In Closing Months of ‘10. No longer the world #1 in the World Tennis rankings, or even considered the top player on the planet anymore, Roger Federer finally looked as if the decline in his game that everyone has been expecting had finally arrived.
But if you’re waiting for the Swiss maestro to finally ride off into the sunset after arguably the most successful career in modern professional odds action you’re going to have to keep waiting.Despite a disappoint season in terms of the Grand Slam events and an early exit in the most recent, the US Open, Federer has been on fire ever since.
In the finals of the recent Swiss Indoors championship Federer, a former ball boy at this event in his home town of Basel, eliminated the reigning champion and world #3 Novak Djokovic easily. That win puts Federer one win ahead of the great Pete Sampras in the all time career tournament titles list with 65 single titles. That franks 4th all time (Jimmy Connors is first with 109 titles).
Sundays’ win is a major turnaround for Federer after the disappointment at the US Open. It seemed that at 29, an age where most tennis players think of retirement, or at least show signs of decline in the tennis betting action, Federer seem to be as good as ever.
After dropping all the way to #3, he’s now regained the #2 spot in the tennis odds world ranking and even though he trials Spaniard Rapha Nadal there’s always a chance he could regain the #1 spot with an impressive performance in the upcoming 8-man ATP World championships and if he somehow grabs another Aussie Open title in January he would be right in the hunt.
Since the US Open defeat in September Federer is 12-1 with 2 tournament titles (the Stockholm Open and the Swiss Indoors). His only loss came in the finals at the Shanghai Rolex masters to #4 ranked Andy Murray.
The ATP Championship is likely Federer’s last big event of the 2010 tennis betting season and based on the way he’s been playing lately you can never bet against him taking another title this calendar year.
