Wimbledon odds begin by understanding the options you have for wagering. There are two basic options when you look at Wimbledon betting.

You can bet on a player to win the tournament in Wimbledon or you can bet matchups. Let’s look at both of these options. Wimbledon on a player to win the tournament are called a future bet. You are betting on a player to win the entire tournament before it begins. These Wimbledon can range anywhere from even money to 100-1 or more. A player like Roger Federer might have even money Wimbledon but an unknown player might be listed at 100-1.

The other main option in Wimbledon betting odds is the matchup. These usually start appearing at the sportsbook when the quarterfinals begin.  Sometimes you will see matchups earlier in Wimbledon betting odds at the sportsbook but usually the Wimbledon odds are so high on the favored player that sportsbooks don’t like to put up the one-sided line. A competitive line between two ranked players might have one listed at -180 and the other at +160.  You would risk $180 to win $100 or the 18/10 equivalent.  If you liked the underdog you would win $160 for every $100 or the 10/16 equivalent.

In Wimbledon you should know that women’s matches are best of three while men’s matches are best of five sets. As you look to handicap Wimbledon betting odds you will want to remember that some players are grass court experts like Roger Federer.  He has won the last five Wimbledon titles and is the favorite in 2008 Wimbledon. The grass usually favors players in Wimbledon odds that have big serves and can volley well.

History definitely plays a factor as you look at Wimbledon. Players that have success on the grass usually repeat that success at Wimbledon. Other players that struggle on the grass rarely turn things around at Wimbledon.  You need to keep that in mind as you look at Wimbledon odds and as you pick winners in the matchups.
