Roddick Still Overrated in Tennis Betting

April 14th, 2021 Tennis Betting

Tennis betting has Andy Roddick starting the 2010 season at #7 in the world. While Roddick still has a big name in tennis betting, those that bet on tennis have rarely been rewarded as Roddick hardly ever wins. Tennis betting had Roddick winning just one title last year and that was in Memphis. He got a lot of publicity for his match against Roger Federer at Wimbledon but the bottom line is that the still lost in tennis betting.

While many still believe the best is ahead for Roddick, he has yet to prove that is the case. “The future’s bright,” Roddick’s tennis coach Larry Stefanki said, “It shows me that he can play on the biggest stage in our profession and come within one point of taking the title.” Losing Wimbledon may have changed the perception of Roddick from those that bet on tennis. It definitely changed the perception of tennis fans. “I think it’s changed the fans’ outlook a little bit on Andy.” James Blake said, “People have maybe felt he gets a lot of things given to him because of that serve, that a lot of matches come easy. But I think they realize how hard he works, just how passionate he’s been about this sport for so long.”

Roddick has had some success at the Australian Open but what really matters is a tennis betting title. He is 30-8 during his career at the Australian Open but he is well back on the tennis odds board behind the favored Roger Federer. “It’s weird because I’ve played well here — I’ve made the semis in Melbourne four times. They’re pretty good results, but I don’t have that standout result. I’d certainly like another chance.”

Many that bet on tennis have begun to realize that Roddick is somewhat overrated. The tennis betting oddsmakers are getting that message as well. While Roddick still has the big name, his appeal to those that bet on tennis has lessened. He is actually a co-seventh choice in tennis odds in the Australian Open at 25-1. That is behind Federer, Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, Juan Martin Del Potro, Rafael Nadal and Nikolay Davydenko in tennis. He is even with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Marin Cilic at 25-1 in tennis betting. Even at 25-1 it could be that Roddick is still a bit overrated on the tennis betting odds board.
