Maria Sharapova Australian Open Betting at SBG Global

April 14th, 2021 Tennis Betting

Australian Open betting on Maria Sharapova should be popular for the 2009 Australian Open. Sharapova is the defending Australian Open tennis betting champion having won last year’s title in convincing fashion. Australian Open betting has Serena Williams and Sharapova as the two main favorites for the 2009 title on the women’s side.

Last year Sharapova rolled over everyone in her path in Australian Open tennis betting, defeating Lindsay Davenport 6-1 6-3, Elena Dementieva 6-2 6-0, Justine Henin in the quarterfinals 6-4 6-0, Jelena Jankovic in the semifinals 6-3 6-1 and Ana Ivanovic in the finals 7-5 6-3.

Sharapova is a popular choice in Australian Open betting because of her beauty and her talent. Sharapova turned pro in 2001 but didn’t play full time on the tour until 2003. In 2004 she won Wimbledon and was ranked as high as #4.  She held that ranking in 2005 and actually went to #1 for a little while that year. In 2006, she won the U.S. Open and made it up to #2 in the rankings. 2007 was a year in which she battled injuries and fell to #5 in the world. She went to #1 in 2008 but again suffered injury problems but did win in 2008 Australian Open betting.

Sharapova is listed at about 4-1 in Australian Open betting behind Serena Williams who is about 5-2 in Australian Open tennis betting. Sharapova is definitely a serious threat in Australian Open betting behind Serena Williams. She may also be a better value on the Australian Open tennis betting board. The Williams’ sisters attract a lot of attention but rarely offer good value in Australian Open betting. Serena is 5-2 in Australian Open betting while Venus is about 6-1 in Australian Open betting. The women’s side of the draw is very top heavy with only a few players with a realistic chance of winning. Sharapova, the Williams’ sisters, Jelena Jankovic and Ana Ivanovic are the only six players that will be given any realistic chance of winning in Australian Open betting. Former champ Lindsay Davenport might at least get a look but considering she was dominated by Sharapova last year, it is unlikely many people will give her a chance in Australian Open betting.
