Sharapova Could be a Good Choice in U.S. Open Betting

Maria Sharpova is the third choice in U.S. Open betting behind Serena Williams and Kim Clijsters. Sharapova could be a good choice in U.S. Open odds considering how well she is playing heading into the Grand Slam event.

U.S. Open betting lists Sharapova at odds of 5-1 which is third behind Williams and Clijsters. The question for gamblers to answer will be how healthy Serena is for the tournament. If she is not a full strength then the chances of Sharapova winning become better. It could be that Clijsters and Sharapova meet in the final at the U.S. Open. They just recently met in the final of at warm-up tournament in Cincinnati. Sharapova was ready to put that match away in the second set when the rains came just after she failed to convert a match point. She never regained her form and went on to lose the second set and then the third to Clijsters. It was a rare loss for Sharapova this year.

A win by Sharapova would not be a shock. She has won three Grand Slam titles in her career and she has been the top ranked player in the world in the past. She won in Memphis earlier this year and made the Final in Stanford and in Cincinnati.

U.S. Open betting will not include Justine Henin and with Serena struggling with her health, Sharapova is a real threat to win. The question is whether or not she can get past the defending champion Clijsters if the two meet in the tournament. Sharapova has not been at full health in recent seasons so it is hard to look at past results and read anything into them. She has not gotten past the third round in the past two years but when healthy she is a force. She won the title back in 2006 when she dominated Henin in straight sets in the final.

There are five women with U.S. Open odds of less than 10-1. Serena is the favorite at 8-5 followed by Clisters at 3.5 to 1, Sharapova at 5-1, Venus Williams at 8-1 and Victoria Azarenka at 8.5 to 1. The U.S. Open begins on Monday, August 30th with the women’s final scheduled for Saturday, September 11th.
