Tennis Betting Spotlight: ATP World Finals in Full Swing. While it’s not quite the same as the Super Bowl or as definitive as the World Series the ATP World Finals is the closest thing to a playoff/championship that exists in men’s tennis betting.
And while it’s just one tournament and the annual world rankings is likely a much more accurate snap shot of how a player compares to his fellow competitors, this is as close to clinching a world title as the top tennis players in the world will get.The ATP Championships, held in London this year, feature the ranked players in the tennis odds at yearend. These players are then seeded accordingly and pitted against one another in a ‘last man standing’, single elimination event. The ATP World Finals may not have the name recognition or the hype of the Grand Slam events, but for the tennis players, this is one of the most important tennis betting titles of the year.
Winning this title gives you bragging rights in the locker room and means you beat the best of the best. So far in the two opening matches fans have been treated to a little bit of everything with a tennis odds legend winning his first matchup and a minor upset in another. In the first day of competition #2 seed Roger Federer defeated David Ferrer, the #7 seed, easily in straight sets (6-1, 6-4).
Federer has been sharp of late winning several titles in the past month and finishing runner up in another. The other match featured #5 seed and local favorite Andy Murray against #4 Robin Soderling. The Brit defeated Soderling 6-2, 6-4 and will advance to play against Federer in the next round of competition.
World #1 Rapha Nadal is of course the favorite and if he can keep his serve going as he did at the hard courts of the US Open he’s going to be tough to beat as always.
Nadal is practically a lock to reach the finals if you look at his side of the draw there doesn’t seem to be anyone capable of defeating him. He’s likely to face the winner of the Federer/Murray tennis betting matchup in the finals.
