There is no doubt that Raphael Nadal is the undisputed #1 player in the tennis betting action right now, but the one man still capable of beating him is the former world #1, Roger Federer.
Nadal put together one of the most impressive seasons in the modern era winning three straight Grand Slam events (French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open) and will look to go for sweep of the Slams at the Australian Open in January. But at least for now, Federer can close the year bragging rights as the Swiss legend outdueled Nadal to win the ATP World Finals in London this past week. Federer won easily 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 in a match in which he was able to neutralize the Spaniard’s much improved serve.
The World Finals may not be a Grand Slam but it’s probably the closest thing in the tennis odds action as it pits the best of the best against one another in an eight player format by invitation only.
To win the World Finals title a player has to beat the top ranked players in the tennis betting action and in some ways this is an even more impressive achievement than winning a Slam title in which the first few rounds competition is relatively weak.
Closing the year on a high note should give Federer a little boost heading into the 2011 tennis odds competition and the Australian Open should be one of the most competitive in years as all the top players should be healthy and entered in the field.
It will also be interesting to watch as Nadal, who is on top of his game right now, goes for an almost unprecedented non-calendar year sweep of the Grand Slams –something not even Federer has been able to do in his distinguished and record breaking career.
If Federer has anything to say about it won’t happen. And the world #2 Federer is hardly the only competition in the field capable of knocking off Nadal.
Andy Murray (#4 in the world) is currently playing the best tennis of his career and Robin Soderling (#5) finished the year on a high note, soaring up the world rankings and ending the year with the highest rankings of his career.
And don’t forget world #3 Novak Djokovic, former Aussie winner and very dangerous player if he can hold up in the heat Down Under.
All said, 2011 should be a great year for tennis betting.
