Understanding Tennis Betting Odds at SBG Global

April 6th, 2021 Tennis Betting

Tennis betting odds are shown in two basic ways at sportsbooks. You have the tennis betting odds that will have odds on a player to win a tournament and you will have tennis odds on matchups. Tennis betting odds on a player to win a tournament are listed from 2-1 up to 100-1 or more. There are exceptions to that rule where a player like Roger Federer is a heavy favorite.

In those instances you may have tennis betting odds of 3-5 or less. Those are called odds-on tennis odds. The other main tennis betting odds you will see are listed on matchups. This is a money line wager in which you are betting one player against another. It is a matchup that the sportsbook puts up usually on quarterfinal, semifinal and final action in the tournament. The tennis odds are listed like this:

Venus Williams +130
Serena Williams -150

If you liked Serena you would risk $150 to win $100 or the 15/10 equivalent. If you liked Venus you would win $130 for every $100 wagered or the 13/10 equivalent. Which of these tennis odds give you the best chance to win money? Most experts consider the matchups as the best value on the tennis odds board. The reason for this is two-fold. First, you only have to beat one other player to win and second, you usually get better tennis odds in terms of return. If you are betting a player to win a tournament it is tough to get enough value to make the bet worthwhile in the long run. Tennis odds matchups can present better week to week value. As you look at tennis betting odds matchups you really can compare them to money line odds you would see in baseball or hockey. The principle is the same. You are just betting one player to beat another one, just as you would bet one team against another one.

Tennis odds are usually the most popular during the Grand Slam events of Wimbledon, the U.S. Open, the French Open and the Australian Open.  Don’t forget, however, that many sportsbooks post tennis betting odds on tournaments throughout the year.
