There are many reasons the list of Triple Crown winners is so small. All three races are run within a five week time period which means the winning horse has to be in excellent condition to win in Triple Crown wagering. Horses just are not ready to go a mile and a half and even if a horse wins the first two races in Triple Crown wagering they usually fall short in the third.
