Jones Heavily Favored in Sportsbook UFC Odds vs. Matyushenko

February 12th, 2021 UFC Betting

The month of August begins with an exciting UFC event that will be televised on Versus with the feature bout being Jon Jones favored at the sportsbook against Vladimir Matyushenko.

The event was originally scheduled to take place in Salt Lake City but was moved to San Diego.  Jones is a -600 favorite in UFC odds at the online sportsbook to win the headline bout.

Sportsbook odds will be available for the Matyushenko-Jones fight as well as other exciting bouts on the card that can be seen on Versus on Sunday, August 1st. There are four bouts on the main card.  In addition to the headline bout featuring Jones, the other fights have Yushin Okami vs. Mark Munoz, Jake Ellenberger vs. John Howard and Tyson Griffin vs. Takanori Gomi.

The headliner should be a win for Jones but you never know in the UFC.  Matyushenko is 24-4 in his career and has won his last three fights.  His last loss was to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.  He faces a tough battle in this bout against the very talented Jones. In his last fight, Jones broke Brandon Vera’s cheekbone in an impressive win.  He has only lost once and that was a disqualification against Matt Hamill. He would have won that fight if not for getting disqualified.

The other three fights on the main card should be more competitive.  Yushin Okami is -210 against Mark Munoz, Jake Ellenberger is -170 vs. John Howard and Tyson Griffin is 3-1 in UFC odds at the online sportsbook against Takanori Gomi. That last bout between Griffin and Gomi should be entertaining.  Gomi is a Japanese superstar who is looking to get some notoriety in the United States while Griffin is always fun to watch. Griffin was a substitution in this fight as it was supposed to be Joe Stevenson but he injured his knee in training.

The preliminary card has Paul Kelly vs. Jacob Volkmann, Matthew Riddle vs. DaMarques Johnson, James Irvin vs. Igor Pokrajac, Brian Stann vs. Mike Massenzio, Williamy Freire vs. Thiago Tavares, Darren Elkins vs. Charles Oliveira and Rob Kimmons vs. Steve Steinbeiss.

UFC on Versus 2 sets the stage for an exciting month of UFC action as just six days later it will be UFC 117 on Saturday, August 7th.
