There have been some great champions in the history of the UFC betting action but there’s never been anyone quite like current middleweight champion Anderson da Silva.
Welterweight champion and the top pound for pound fighter in the world, according to Yahoo Sports, Georges St Pierre (GSP), defending his world title to no one’s surprise and the rest of the Main Card followed with more predictable results.
Experience won the day and in almost every case the more experience and favored fighter in the UFC odds prevailed at the Montreal event.
But just because the results were predictable doesn’t mean there wasn’t action.
In fact, the methodical dismantling of contender Josh Koscheck by GSP, while wholly expected was still mesmerizing and actually won Fight of the Night honors despite St Pierre dominating the 3-round decision (50-54, 50-45, 50-45).
Knockout of the Night went to American Mac Danzig who sent who sent his lightweight opponent and fellow American Joe Stevenson to the canvas just 1:54 into the 1st round of their bout.
Submission of the Night went to Canadian Mark Bocek who ended Dustin Hazelett’s night with a beautifully executed Triangle Choke in the 1st round of their fight which was streamed live on UFC.com.
In the Main Card action seasoned UFC betting veteran Thiago Alves ruined John Howard’s UFC 124 experience, soundly defeated the less experienced American via unanimous decision.
Sean McCorkle was also looking to make a big splash with a Main Card UFC betting win over an established fighter against Stefan Struve, but the young Dutchman scored a TKO in round 1 and knocked McCorkle’s path to the top of the heavyweight division of course.
Perhaps the most intriguing matchup on the Main Card was the lightweight matchup between American Jim Miller (19-2) and Brazilian Charles Oliveira who entered the match with a perfect 14-0 record.
But Miller made quick work Oliveira getting him to tap out in the first round after applying a killer knee bar with 1:59 left in the round. With the win Miller has established himself as one of the top lightweight fighters in the world.
The 2010 UFC Main Event has been full of great fights and is it draws to close there’s plenty to look back on and marvel. But with UFC 125 scheduled for January 1st there’s no real reason to dwell on the past either.
