UFC Betting News: Penn Destroys Hughes in UFC 123.  Whether you’re talking about boxing, wrestling UFC betting, you name it, the most exciting weight division is the heavyweight division.  Fans will have to keep waiting for the answer to that question as their much hyped matchup at last weekend’s UFC Main Event lasted all of 21 seconds.

Twenty-one seconds was all it took for Penn to knockout Hughes.  Less than half a minute of action and the fight was over.  UFC odds fans had to feel slightly cheated by the quick result as this was one of the best matchups in the UFC betting action in several months.

After two European based UFC Events (London and Germany) in the past two months that featured no name fighters and were hugely disappointing fans were looking forward to this matchup of two of the biggest names in the welterweight class.

But as disappointing as it was, it was by equal measure just as impressive.  Penn came out of the gate swinging and landed a monster right followed up by a barrage of fists on the mat that lest Hughes a beaten man.

Not surprisingly, the quick KO earned the “Knockout of the Night” honors.  Hughes, the former welterweight champion, at 37 years of age is no longer in his prime but nobody expected Penn to have such an easy time.

Granted if the fight would have gone several rounds and gone to mat we’d have perhaps seen a different outcome.  But it didn’t and Penn is the clear victor.

After the match UFC president Dana White mapped out Penn’s next move.  In the UFC 127 Main Event to be held in Australia in February Penn with Jon Fitch in what will likely lead to a shot at the title.

For Penn, this is a major win.  He’d been struggling of late losing 3 of his past 5 fights in the run up to his UFC 123 match with Hughes (twice to Frankie Edgar and once to champion Georges St Pierre).

But this win gives him new life in the UFC Odds and UFC betting action and with a win against Fitch down under a re-match with St Pierre just might be in the works.
