UFC Odds Preview: 2011 Starts Off With a Bang in UFC 125 Actions. For the 125th edition of UFC Main Event, the biggest night of MMA in the world and the flagship of the UFC, you might expect a little bit bigger bang for your buck, but the UFC 125 lineup features a relative dearth of talent.
Especially since UFC 125 will kick off the 2011, you would expect more for the New Year kick off, but fans haven’t had much to complain about of late as 2010 was an historic year in MMA fighting and arguably the greatest we’ve ever seen.If 2011 turns out to be even has as exciting as the UFC betting action in 2010 than fans will certainly get their money’s worth.
Headlining the New Year’s Day UFC odds event will be Frankie Edgar, the reigning Lightweight Champion of the World, defending his title against Gray Maynard.
Edgar is one of the toughest fighters in the UFC and against all odds, not only won the lightweight championship by defeating UFC great BJ Penn, but also defeated him again in his first title defense. The 5’6” 155lb fighter has earned the right to be called the best middle weight in the world and on the first day of the New Year should show the world why he’s the best.
His opponent, Maynard, aka “the Bully”, is a talented fighter in his own right. He’s not only beaten big names in the sport like Kenny Florian, Nate Diaz and Jim Miller, he’s also beaten Edgar once before in the 2008 meeting. Maynard won a unanimous decision against Edgar at UFC Fight Night 13, in 2008 and he’s yet to lose an MMA event (10-0).
But that was more than two years ago and these are both very different fighters.
Still this should go down as a lightweight matchup for the ages and anything could happen when these two square off in the UFC odds action.
Other UFC betting bouts of note include Chris Leben vs. Brian Stann in a middleweight showdown which enjoys second billing on the UFC 125 card.
Fans would also be well to check out UFC odds matchup between Brandon Vera (11-5) and perennial lightweight contender Thiago Silva who’s coming losses in two of his last three matches and always seems to turn in an entertaining performance.
