In the run up to the UFC 119 betting event the hype machine has been all about the big men. With the heavyweight matchup between Frank Mir and Mirko Filipovic and the light heavyweight battle between Antonnio Rogerio Noguiera vs. Ryan Bader are sharing top billing on the Main Card many people will be overlooking the other great matchups of the night.
While the heavyweight and light heavyweight matchups in the UFC 119 odds action should be incredible to simply focus on these fights and ignore the battles in the lower weight division would be crazy. The best matchups in the UFC 119 betting are arguably to be found in the two lightweight battles scheduled on the event’s Main Card.
The first of these matchups includes Sean Sherk vs. Evan Dunham. This match should go a long way in working out the new pecking order in this wide open weight division. Sherk is a veteran of the UFC events and former champion of the weight division. But at age 37 there are plenty of questions about his ability as a fighter and this will be his chance to answer his critics and let the world know that he’s still a contender in the lightweight division.
His opponent Dunham has nowhere near Sherk but has been impressive in his UFC career. His MMA fighting record is a perfect 11-0 and Dunham has never tasted defeat in the Octagon. He’s 4-0 in UFC competitions and win against Sherk in the UFC 119 betting action would catapult him up the contenders list.
The other lightweight battle features two more very exciting fighters: Melvin Guillard vs. Jeremy Stephens. Guillard has fought an impressive number of fights (34) for such a young fighter (27 years old). But he’s hardly been perfect losing 8 matches and notching 2 draws. He’s 5-1 in his past 6 UFC matchups and has won his past two fights but done little else of any importance.
Stephens is an up and coming fighter and at 24 years old has an impressive 18-6 record. However, his fighting resume also lacks a big name win and he’ll need an impressive victory in the UFC 119 betting action if he wants to be included on the list of title contenders.
