Oregon Ducks Take on California Golden Bears in NCAA Week 9

This Friday, the 24th of October 2014, Week 9 of NCAA football kicks off with the top ranked No. 6 Oregon Ducks 6-1 (1st Pac 12 North) playing the unranked California Golden Bears 4-3 (3rd Pac 12 North). The game will be played at the new Levi’s Stadium, in Santa Clara, California at 10 PM ET and will be televised on Fox TV.

The No. 6 Ducks have come back from their loss to Arizona Wildcats, on the 2nd of October 31-27 at home, and then beat UCLA Bruins 42-30 the 11th of October, and beat the Washington Huskies 45-20 this past 18 of October 2014.

The California Bears lost their last game to the UCLA Bruins 36-34 and the Bears are also the team that has allowed 26 passing touchdowns, the most in the nation at this time. This past week their offense was not up to par, as it’s the first week this season, that they have been held to less 400 yard offensively.

The team offensive leaders, to date, for the Ducks are QB Mariota who has completed 132 of 188 passes for 1,957 yards with 19 touchdowns. RB Freeman with 114 carries for 636 yards with 11 touchdowns, while Receiver Allen has 23 receptions for 440 yards and 6 touchdowns.

The Ducks have a lot of talent in the backfield that includes Freeman, Marshall, Tyner and Bassett, and the coach has been trying to spread the rushing assignments, but in the last game Freeman got the majority of the carries, while he had Marshall as a receiver. The Ducks, have won 5 consecutive games with California, and have averaged 30 points in those games, with last years at home the Ducks won 55-16.

Leaders offensively for the Bears, to date are QB Goff who completed 177 of 273 passes for 2,482 yards and 24 touchdowns. RB Lasco has 102 carries for 523 yards with 6 touchdowns, while Receiver Treggs has 33 receptions for 401 yards and 5 touchdowns.

In the Bears game with the Bruins the Bears QB Goff had touchdowns while throwing for 303 yards, then was intercepted on the 2 yard line with seconds to go in the game, thus lost the game. QB Goff has had 41 pass attempts thrown, in each of the four previous games, and completed 64.7% with 14 touchdowns while throwing two interceptions in those games. In last season’s loss to the Ducks, their Coach Dykes, benched Goff early in the game, after he fumbled twice, losing both, and completed only 3 of 7 passes for 11 yards. Hopefully Goff has a better game against the Bruins this year.
